Description
When faced with unkind comments, children may be tempted to retaliate which can be counter-productive. An assertive but non aggressive response is suggested. This story encourages grey area thinking by reminding children that hurtful comments don’t necessarily mean that the child is a nasty child. It also highlights that at times comments can not be consciously hurtful. In
these instances, it can be very beneficial for a child to share their hurt feelings. The story assists children in how to try to resolve the
issue themselves first and when this fails, to enlist the help of an adult or move away. Children are also encouraged to provide grace when faced with an apology.
